When is Laylat al-Qadr 2027?
Evening of Friday 5 March 2027
27 Ramadan 1448 AH begins at sunset· in 142 days
Laylat al-Qadr is sought on the odd nights of the last ten of Ramadan; the 27th is the night many Muslims single out. Maghrib and Isha times for each night.
Expected date on the Umm al-Qura calendar. Many communities confirm the month by sighting the new moon, so Laylat al-Qadr can fall a day later where you live; your local mosque or national moon-sighting committee announces it.
Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Decree, is the night on which the Quran was first sent down. Surah al-Qadr describes it as better than a thousand months (97:3). Its date is not fixed: the Prophet told Muslims to seek it in the odd nights of the last ten of Ramadan (Sahih al-Bukhari 2017), so the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th nights are all candidates.
The 27th night is the one most widely observed. The companion Ubayy ibn Ka'b held that it was the 27th (Sahih Muslim 762), while other reports point to other nights, among them the 21st (Sahih al-Bukhari 2016). Because an Islamic day starts at sunset, each of these nights begins at Maghrib on the evening before the day of the same number.
