When is Eid al-Fitr 2027?
Tuesday 9 March 2027
1 Shawwal 1448 AH· in 146 days
Expected date on the Umm al-Qura calendar. Many communities confirm the month by sighting the new moon, so Eid al-Fitr can fall a day later where you live; your local mosque or national moon-sighting committee announces it.
Eid al-Fitr, the festival of breaking the fast, falls on 1 Shawwal, the day after Ramadan ends. The day begins with the Eid prayer in congregation in the morning, and fasting on the day of Eid is not allowed (Sahih al-Bukhari 1992).
Before the prayer, Muslims give Zakat al-Fitr, a small charity for each member of the household so that people in need can share in the celebration. The Prophet told Muslims to pay it before people go out to the Eid prayer (Sahih al-Bukhari 1503).

Questions about Eid al-Fitr
Why is the date of Eid al-Fitr often confirmed only the night before?
Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days. On the evening of the 29th, communities that rely on sighting look for the new crescent: if it is seen, Eid is the next day; if not, Ramadan runs to 30 days. Communities that use calculation can announce the date in advance, which is why neighbouring mosques sometimes celebrate on different days.
When should Zakat al-Fitr be paid?
Before the Eid prayer (Sahih al-Bukhari 1503). Many people pay it in the last days of Ramadan, often through their mosque or a charity, so that it reaches the people it is meant for in time for Eid.
