When is Eid al-Adha 2027?
Sunday 16 May 2027
10 Dhu al-Hijjah 1448 AH· in 214 days
Expected date on the Umm al-Qura calendar. Many communities confirm the month by sighting the new moon, so Eid al-Adha can fall a day later where you live; your local mosque or national moon-sighting committee announces it.
Eid al-Adha, the festival of sacrifice, falls on 10 Dhu al-Hijjah, the day after the Day of Arafah, while pilgrims are completing the Hajj. It remembers the Prophet Ibrahim's readiness to sacrifice his son at God's command, and the sacrifice God provided in his place (Quran 37:102 to 107).
The day begins with the Eid prayer. Afterwards, those who are able sacrifice an animal, known as udhiyah or qurbani; the Prophet taught that the prayer comes first and the sacrifice after it (Sahih al-Bukhari 965). The meat is shared with family, neighbours and people in need. The three days that follow, 11 to 13 Dhu al-Hijjah, are the days of Tashreeq, described in Sahih Muslim (1141) as days of eating and drinking.
