Praying in Jeddah

Jeddah's night is shortest in June: Fajr reaches its earliest, 4:13 AM, on 3 June, while Isha does not peak until 28 June at 8:40 PM. Between the two, the stretch from Isha to the next Fajr is under eight hours, even though the city is only 21.5 degrees north and the seasons are mild.

In winter, Fajr is latest on 19 January at 5:44 AM, and the Fajr-to-Maghrib day shrinks to 12h 11m on 17 December from 14h 55m on 18 June. Saudi Arabia has no clock changes, so Jeddah's table moves only with the sun.

Frequently asked questions

How short is the night between Isha and Fajr in Jeddah in June?

With Isha at 8:40 PM on 28 June and Fajr as early as 4:13 AM earlier in the month, the gap between them is under eight hours. Isha is a fixed interval after Maghrib, so the short night comes from the sun, not the interval.

When is the longest fast of the year in Jeddah?

On 18 June, when the Fajr-to-Maghrib day lasts 14h 55m, three days before the June solstice on 21 June. The shortest, 12h 11m, is on 17 December, five days before the December solstice on 22 December.

Why is Isha earliest in November in Jeddah?

Isha is a fixed interval after Maghrib, so it follows sunset. Sunset is earliest around 19 November, when Isha is 7:10 PM, a month before the winter solstice. After that sunsets creep later again, even though the days still shorten at dawn.

How many mosques does OpenStreetMap list near Jeddah?

OpenStreetMap lists 448 mosques within 15 km of the city centre. Volunteers keep that map up to date, so some smaller prayer rooms may be missing. For congregation times, follow the timetable of the mosque you attend.
