Praying in Umm Salal

In Umm Salal the earliest Isha comes weeks before the shortest day. It is 6:13 PM on 29 November, more than three weeks before the 22 December solstice, and from there Isha creeps later even as the days keep shrinking.

The other end of the year has the same lag. Fajr is not latest until 5:02 AM on 17 January, and the fast peaks at 15h 14m on 20 June. Qatar does not change its clocks, so none of this is masked by an hour jump.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Isha earliest on 29 November in Umm Salal?

Sunset is at its earliest in late November, a few weeks before the winter solstice, and Isha is fixed 90 minutes after Maghrib. As sunset starts to move later, so does Isha, even while the days still shorten.

Does Umm Salal highlight Standard or Hanafi Asr?

Standard, with Hanafi Asr available as a toggle. The Hanafi view sets Asr later in the afternoon. Either time is correct for the school that follows it, and the switch changes the highlight across the site.

When is Fajr latest in Umm Salal?

On 17 January, at 5:02 AM. This is a little under four weeks after the winter solstice, because the morning twilight keeps getting later for a while after the shortest day.

How many mosques are near Umm Salal?

OpenStreetMap lists 219 mosques within 15 km of the city centre. As volunteer data, it may miss some small prayer rooms. Check your local mosque for its congregation timetable, which can differ from the calculated start times.
